So… the ever anxiety inducing topic of potty training..
We started when Alfie was quite young to have him without nappies at home just roaming around free. But we never managed to get him on a potty or the toilet. Did we push too much? Did we create some kind of anxiety around this for him? Oh god I hope not. But it does seem we might have. He is almost 3 years old and still in nappies. So what can we do?
Jack shared this article with me – “How to Use the 3-Day Potty Training Method”
With that in mind we’ve started talking to Alfie about how it’s so cool that he’s soon going to be old enough to stop with nappies. First time I said this to him he got very excited. I’m hoping by us saying it more and more he’ll process it and in a week or so we can just stop all together.
We’ve spoken to his nursery teachers and they’re on board. And we just need to prepare with A LOT of clothes to be sent to his nursery. And I’ve ordered these protection covers so we can have them under blankets on the sofa as well as our bed and his bed.
I honestly think we can do this. We just need to be consistent. As per the article linked above it can be confusing for children if trying to phase it out and wearing nappies at some times and some times not. I’m sure that works for some children but maybe for Alfie we just confused him and made it all worse.
Wish us luck and I’ll follow up with how we get on.
Enjoy your day and hopefully you’ll get to sleep well, even if it’s only five minutes at a time. X
